Considered by many to be the ultimate Spitfire/Seafire variant, the FR.46/47 differed dramatically from R.J Mitchells' orginal design, featuring a chin mounted radiator, contra-rotating propellers, folding wings and short barrelled cannons.
It was the Seafire FR.47 that carried out the last combat raids of the Spitfire family's long and illustriuos career, performing ground attack missions against North Korean targets during the Korean War.
Once again it proved itself to be an effective and popular aircraft, but it's time had come and the Seafire was to be replaced, firstly by the more powerful Piston Aircraft and then by Jets.
